Louisiana tornadoes

(The Hill) – Three people have died in Louisiana when tornadoes hit the state as part of a storm system that swept across the country and headed southeast.

Just outside New Orleans, St. Charles Parish confirmed one death. In northern Louisiana, a mother and her son were found dead after a storm destroyed their home.

Dozens of other Louisians across the state were reportedly injured, and some remain hospitalized with what Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards (D) described as “significant injuries.”

Sports journalist Grant Wahl died of an aortic aneurysm: what is it?

Edwards said at a news conference Wednesday night that the state has seen significant losses to homes and infrastructure as the tornadoes rip through homes, hospitals and other structures.

“There is never a good time for [this]but here we are, just before Christmas, and it’s been particularly disheartening for some people going through this right now,” Edwards said.

Dozens of tornadoes have been reported into Florida from east Texas over the past week, and affected states like Louisiana have seen significant damage.

The storm comes just over a year after Hurricane Ida devastated the state.
