Furious. An overwhelming 92% of NFL picks polled at NFL Pickwatch and fan blogs like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers beating the New Orleans Saints in Monday Night Football this week, with just 8% of the expert picks going against the tide , to support the blacks and gold.

Do the Saints have what it takes to cause a stir? They’ve done it before, in this very place, against the same team – just last year, a staggering 99% of the pundits picked the Buccaneers over the Saints for their week 15 game at Raymond James Stadium, only for New Orleans to walk away with a win . A year earlier, 85% of them had picked Tampa Bay at home, including the entire NBC Sports pregame panel (except for Drew Brees, who enjoyed a victory lap afterwards).

And this version of the Buccaneers looks a lot less intimidating than its predecessors. They are only 5-6 against the Saints with 4-8 so far this year and have been playing poorly on both offense and defense at times this season. Tom Brady hasn’t been able to keep his rhythm consistent with his receivers, and his offensive line is in tatters with just one starter returning from last year’s matchup with the Saints (left tackle Donovan Smith, who hit a season-high 4 pressings that game of week 15).

But this version of the Saints also leaves a lot to be desired. They’ve been injured all season with penalties and wrong-time errors. The offense was unable to shift gears and find success against the more challenging opponents on their schedule. The decision making of head coach Dennis Allen and his staff is suspect. They have a lot to prove in their season and it shows why so many people don’t pick them to win this game.
