In an interview to be shown on BBC2, he told Louis: ‘I just felt like I was overwhelmed, that I didn’t think I could handle this.

“I would often pass out and get super depressed or super withdrawn and withdrawn and just disappear — I just stayed home and smoked a lot of weed.”

According to The Mirror, he said he went through a period where he wasn’t in the ‘best mind space’ as he tried to balance being ‘the greatest artist’ with his family life and trying to be a role model in his community.

The notoriously private couple dated for four years, but reportedly ended their relationship in 2019 to focus on their careers.

A representative for Maya confirmed the split to UKTN at the time, with the Radio 1 DJ reportedly already moving out of the rapper’s house.

Maya’s rep told UKTN, “I can confirm that the relationship has ended and Maya has divorced Stormzy.”

It’s not the first time Stormzy has spoken out about his relationship with Maya, after stating that he still loves her “wholeheartedly” and wants to get married and have kids with his ex-girlfriend in the future.

“She’s crazy about G, mate,” the grime star said of his ex. ‘I love her dearly. I’ve never loved anyone the way I’ve loved her.’

The radio host asked if he thought the couple could ever reconcile, to which he replied: “I’d like that to happen, but I don’t know…

“I’d love to be the man she needs, I’d love to do all the things that make this work.” I want to marry her, I want to have her children.’

The pair previously dated between 2015 and 2019, and are now said to be giving their romance another go.

Stormzy’s This Is What I Mean performance is available to watch on Prime Video and the Amazon Music UK channel on Twice from 7pm on November 30
