Sosh author plans to donate food and toiletries to more families

Author Lerato Phakoe has seen the need and heeded the call to help needy people in Soshanguve.

Through her NPO, the Lerato Phakoe foundation, she has been donating food parcels to people in need and sending R400 to those who live far from her Soshanguve home.

For a while, her foundation was focused on helping fight challenges that prevent learners from learning in schools.

“Then we realised that we need to focus on problems that learners face in their homes,” she said.

She said many learners in high schools and some in varsity reached out to her asking for help with basic needs like sanitary towels, food and stationery.

People responded to her Facebook page posts when she started asking for donations so that she could help people in need.

She said helping people makes her feel alive.

“I aspire to be the answer to people’s prayers. No one deserves to suffer when there are people who can help,” she said.

She plans on raising more funds and partnering with other people who will help with food parcels, toiletries and stationery.

She called on the community to help with donations that they will take to three families they’re left with.

“They can help by buying food or sending money so that we can buy food for them,” she said.

She added that the families need food and toiletries they plan to help them before the end of the year.

“We did our research and found out that the children in these families go days without eating properly or eating at all,” she said.

Those who wish to donate can contact Phakoe on Facebook: Lerato Phakoe.
