Professionals react to judges’ scorecard error who scratches their heads

Karolina Kowalkiewicz scored a win over Silvana Gomez Juarez at UFC 281, but she will be plunged into controversy after a baffling incident with scorecards in the middle of the Octagon.

Every time the UFC appears to come to New York, there always seems to be something confused, fishy, or controversial. UFC 281 appears to have had a moment during the early preliminary part of the card in the women’s strawweight bout between Carolina Kowalkiewicz and Silvana Gomez Juarez.

After a dominant first round by Kowalkiewicz, the fight between the two has intensified for the past ten minutes.

The fight went away, but just when Bruce Buffer was ready to read the scorecards a state commissioner came in to make corrections to the card—right when the cameras were on it.

In the end, the fight was awarded to Kowalkiewicz via a unanimous decision, with all three judges scoring the fight 29-28 for the former UFC strawweight title contender.

Now, speculation is starting to circulate about whether this is some sort of anti-corruption at work, or whether the judges at cageside have simply forgotten how to do elementary school-level math.

This extends to those who fight in the cage for a living.
