In order to address some of the security challenges in Katampe extension, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), Wednesday removed shanties, batchers and illegal structures.
One of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), officer in the taskforce team was assaulted and her flesh bitten off by another woman -one of the owners of shanties.
The woman bit the officer and swallowed the flesh when the officer tried to control her, while she was being aggressive.
As the officer tried to pin her down she bit her in her arm.
The officer bled profusely and had to be rushed to the hospital while the woman in question was arrested and taken to Gwarinpa Police station.
The Senior Special Assistant to FCT Minister on Monitoring, Inspection and Enforcement, Comrade Ikharo Attah, while reacting to the assault said attack on the taskforce is becoming too frequent saying the woman that bit the security officer has been handed over to the Police for thorough investigation on the matter.
He said: “Attack on the taskforce is normal in our operation. The security lady that was bitten by the other woman was very civil, and another woman bit her in the process of doing her job, but we will leave the Police to do their job. She has already been handed over to the Police.
“We are addressing some security issues around the high brow Katampe extension district. What we are seeing in this high brow area is the issue of extreme criminality occasion by the people in this area.
“Whenever there is security challenges in the area, most of the things recovered are traced to these people living under the cashew trees, shanties and batchers in Katampe extension.”
The SSA reiterated the commitment of the FCT minister, Malam Muhammad Bello, in ridding the nation’s capital of shanties, batchers and all illegal structures on the road corridors, especially in high brow areas, under high tension cables etc.
The assistant director, Enforcement, Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB), reacting at the venue said, “These are some of the things we experience as an enforcement official. A woman assaulted an officer on duty and you can see the injury she inflicted on the officer. She has been arrested and she has been taken to Gwarinpa Police station and the law will take its cause.
“This is clearing of illegal squatters in Katampe extension, this area is a diplomatic zone. In some of these areas, illegal squatters build structures and these are things the administration is frowning at.
“Apart from the fact that they are environmental nuisances, they also contribute to high rate of crime in this area, there are lot of suspected criminals who have been arrested in this area. They steal from residents; we are here to clear them.”
