Brazilian sport is in mourning. Died this Wednesday (16), Isabel Salgadoone of the greatest players in volleyball of all time. The 62-year-old former athlete was hospitalized at the Sírio-Libanês hospital in São Paulotreating an adult acute respiratory syndrome (ARDS).
Isabel’s death was confirmed by Time Brazil’s Twitter, which described her as “Ace on and off the courts”🇧🇷
Born in Rio de Janeiro, Isabel began her career at Flamengo and played for the Brazilian national team for many years, playing twice olympics and winning a bronze medal at the Pan de San Juan, in 1979. She was also the first Brazilian player to play in Europe.when he moved to Modena in 1980.
After passing through the courts, she started to dedicate herself to the Beach volleyball, being one of the pioneers of the sport. She played several stages of the World and Brazilian Circuit between 1993 and 2001, including gold in the Miami stage, in the USA, in 1994. Her partners were Roseli, Jerusa, Tatiana Minello and Jaqueline.
Isabel is survived by five children, three of them beach volleyball players.: Pedro Solberg, Maria Clara Solberg and Carol Solberg, as well as five grandchildren.
