LeBron James is likely to pass Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for the most points in NBA history this season.
If he does, he might be a little happier than if someone else owned the record.

James was asked if he had “thoughts” about, and if he had a relationship with, the Lakers legend. His response was short and to the point.
“No thoughts and no relationship,” he said Tuesday.
The COVID-19 pandemic seemed to strain every relationship James and Abdul-Jabbar ever had. Last year around this time, Andrew Wiggins expressed that he would not be getting the COVID-19 vaccine (he has since received it and regrets it).
After Wiggins’ Golden State Warriors teammate Draymond Green said it was not his place to tell Wiggins to get vaccinated, James sided with Green.
In December, he shared a meme of three Spider-Man superheroes pointing at each other. One was labeled COVID, the other the flu, and the third was labeled a cold, with James writing in his Instagram caption, “Help me out folks.”
James who was outspoken against the virus annoyed Abdul-Jabbar and said he should be “ashamed”.
“As evidenced by some of the comments that cheer LeBron’s post, he has been supportive of those not getting vaccinated, which makes the situation for everyone.” [us] worse by delaying our health and economic recovery,” Abdul-Jabbar wrote at the time. “The CDC reports that those who are not vaccinated are 9 times more likely to be hospitalized and 14 times more likely to die from COVID than those who have been vaccinated. The number rises to 20 times more likely compared to someone who has received a booster shot. By posting the uninformed meme, LeBron has encouraged vaccine hesitancy, putting lives and livelihoods at risk.”
KAREEM ABDUL-JABBAR RIPST LEBRON JAMES FOR ‘UNINFORMED’ COVID MEME
Despite the tension, James took a moment to comprehend the feat by breaking a record last broken on April 5, 1984.
“To sit here and know that I’m about to break probably the most wanted record in the NBA, things that people said would probably never be done, I just find it super humiliating to myself. I think it’s super It “Obviously Kareem has had his differences with some of my views and some of the things I do, but listen, at the end of the day, to be able to be in the same breath with a man wearing the same uniform,” James said.
“A man who was a staple of this franchise, along with Magic [Johnson]big game [James Worthy] been there for so many years, especially in the ’80s, and a guy who also does a lot of the floor work, I think it’s just super-duper dope for myself to even be in that conversation.”

James needs 1,326 points to set the new record. He has eclipsed that point in every season, except one when he was frequently injured in 2020-2021.
