A Swiss reggae band was forced to halt a gig after being accused of cultural appropriation by audience members who complained about two of its white members wearing dreadlocks.
The organiser of the concert by Lauwarm, (Lukewarm) in a restaurant in Bern, stopped the performance during the interval saying that a number of listeners had complained they felt “uncomfortable” because the band was committing cultural appropriation.
Dominik Plumettaz, the band leader and singer, said the group had performed many times since it was formed a year ago but had never received such complaints. “None of us can explain where these accusations come from. We were really all totally blindsided when he told us about them during the break.”
