Red Bull boss Christian Horner slammed the FIA’s decision to intervene and implement new safety measures in relation to porpoising issues that have plagued most of the grid, including Mercedes star Lewis Hamilton.

The Azerbaijan GP was a cause for concern as many drivers were seen bouncing in their cars and Hamilton needed assistance to get out his car after the race.

It prompted the FIA to issue a new directive, but Horner was not pleased.

“It seems very unfair that at this point of the year when there’s only really one team that has missed the target,” Horner told Reuters.

“Is it right to change everything for that one team or should the one team change to get itself more in line?

“Personally I would put the emphasis on the team to get itself together.”

Hamilton, who is the most notable driver on the grid that has been severely affected by the porpoising issues, struggled in the opening practice sessions at the Canadian GP.

Blighted by performance problems, notably with “porpoising” and bouncing, the team had chosen to try some radical set-up ideas in a bid to solve their problems.

“The car is getting worse the more we do to it,” said Hamilton.

“It’s pretty much like every Friday for us – trying lots of things, including an experimental floor on my side, which didn’t work.

“Nothing we do to this car seems to work. We were going in different ways but nothing works.

“We keep working on it, but it is what it is and I think this is the car for the year so we just have to tough it out and work hard on building a better car for next year.”
