2 dead, 10 injured after boat crash near Key Biscayne & More Breaking News Headlines Today




KEY BISCAYNE, Fla. – Authorities said two people died following a boat crash off the coast of Key Biscayne that left 10 others injured, according to a news release from the U.S. Coast Guard Saturday afternoon.

The two boats collided at around 10:30 p.m. Friday in an area near the Nixon Beach Sandbar, one mile west of Key Biscayne, according to the U.S. Coast Guard. A survivor notified Coast Guard Sector Miami watchstanders of the incident, the agency said.

Ten people were injured when the two boats collided Friday in an area west of the Nixon Beach Sandbar, according to Miami Fire Rescue Lt. Pete Sanchez.

A Coast Guard helicopter crew recovered one of the bodies from the water, while a Miami-Dade Fire Rescue crew airlifted a man to Ryder Trauma Center where he was later pronounced dead.

The injured were treated at Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center and Mercy Hospital, a spokesman for Miami Fire-Rescue said.

Fire Rescue personnel used a helicopter to fly one of the injured to the Ryder Trauma Center, according to the department. A survivor refused treatment.


The incident is under investigation by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
