Reno Omokri, a former media aide to Nigerian ex-president, Goodluck Jonathan, on Monday warned the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) that “it is very dangerous” to politically promote Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Omokri said religious centres are meant to do the work of God, and not promoting politicians.

Recall that a youth Pastor with RCCG, Dr. Oche Otorkpa, had called on the church to sack the Head of Politics and Governance of the church, Pastor Timothy Olaniyan over a comment he made about Osinbajo.

The statement currently doing the rounds and credited to Pastor Olaniyan has equally irked many quarters, with some condemning it.

The pastor had, in the said statement, claimed that only Osinbajo can change the narrative of governance in Nigeria.

However, condemning the ‘one-sided partisan stance’ by Pastor Olaniyan, the youth pastor, alongside others, called for his sack.

Lending his voice on the matter, Omokri said on his verified Twitter handle: “It is very dangerous for the Redeemed Christian Church of God to politically promote Osinbajo. Churches are meant to promote Christ. If churches and mosques start promoting candidates, then they are no longer just religious organisations and should start paying tax!”
