Masks are significant according to these Pretoria citizens

While some Pretoria residents would do away with wearing masks should regulations practice change, others felt the masks provided enough safety to keep wearing them.

It has been over two years since mask-wearing was introduced to reduce the spread of Covid-19.

Rekord spoke to various residents on mask-wearing. Here is what they had to say:

Hlulani
Hlulani Mashaba said he would continue to wear masks for his safety as part of personal protective equipment against the virus.
“While the use of masks alone is not sufficient to suppress transmission of Covid-19, I will also continue following other measures,” he said.
Tshepo
– Tshepo Mmatlou (39) said he can be bound by the law to wear a mask, and “not to stop wearing it because we wear masks for different reasons and it then becomes a personal choice based on health reasons”.
Mashudu
– Mashudu Makhado (39) said he would still wear masks for his safety and also to protect his family.
Malesele
– Malesele Hlakudi (20) said she would also wear it when she gets a chance to because they help prevent this virus.
Khanyisa
Khanyisa Maswanganyi (28) said her health comes first so she would not stop wearing masks.
“Masks are part of a comprehensive strategy of measures to save lives so if we do not wear them then our lives would be at a big risk.”

Some said that they would not wear masks:

Tumelo
– Tumelo Sekwele (26) said he only wears masks when he visits crowded places.
“So I would not wear it since it has been a norm for a long time that masks are no longer that important outdoors and it is still why we were wearing them in the first place,” said.
Lonwabo
– Lonwabo Kheswa (22) said he would stop wearing them, simply because it’s been two years already wearing masks but still he doesn’t feel comfortable with them.
Bonolo
– Bonolo Mthanda (19) said that it is a problem wearing masks because it gives her breathing problems and it makes her sick when she is in a car.
